Semantic Versioning
Versions are written: Major.Minor.Patch.Build (e.g. 2.2.3.3016)
- Major version: All server and desktop products with the same major version are compatible. Changes in major version may break the client/server API.
- Minor version: Minor version increases signify additional functionality to a product, and will be backwardly compatible. E.g. client version 2.9 will be compatible with server version 2.2
- Patch version: Patch version increases when we make backwardly compatible bug fixes.
- Build number: internally incrementing number for each formal build, the majority of which are internal QA releases or alpha/beta channels.
